IEEE 802.16 - WORKING GROUP FOR WIRELESS ACCESS STANDARD

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access concerns himself with the IEEE 802.16 family of WirelessMAN™, the standard for Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks.

The working group 802.16 is occupied with wireless access devices to wideband networks, concretely with an air interface , thus with an air interface for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access systems. It aimes at data rates starting at 2 Mbit/s and bigger distances, e.g. for the provision of several buildings. The frequency range used for the transfer is to be situated between 10 GHz and 66 GHz.

Meeting bimonthly, 802.16 has a record of rapidly reaching technical consensus. IEEE 802.16's standards set the stage for a revolution in reliable, high-speed network access in the first mile by homes and enterprises.
